Richard Traina Scholarship

Granted to new students who have displayed a tireless devotion to leadership, education, and community. One of Clark’s top-level scholarship awards and honours, the Traina Scholarship award is named after the late Richard P. Traina, the past University President who saw a better world was achievable through listening, learning, and networking. 

Eligible candidates will get an $80,000 four-year award ($20,000 each year) irrespective of their family’s financial need, given that the student meets year-to-year continuation criteria.

Robert Goddard Scholarship

Granted to new students who have displayed strong academic prospects to achieve in and out of the classroom on projects of significance. Named after Robert H. Goddard—Clark alumnus and faculty member and the pioneer of modern rocketry—whose bold technique to learning imagined and anticipated a world that did not yet exist.

Eligible candidates will get a $68,000 four-year award ($17,000 each year) irrespective of their family’s financial need, given that the student satisfies year-to-year continuation criteria.

Jonas Clark Scholarship

Granted to new students who have displayed the prospect to challenge convention and transform the world. Named after the university’s founder, Jonas Clark, who sought to champion an educational model that would establish freethinking and bold students and citizens of the world.

Eligible candidates will get a $56,000 four-year award ($14,000 each year) irrespective of their family’s financial need, given that the student satisfies year-to-year continuation criteria.

Presidential Scholarships

Granted to around five students every year, the Presidential Scholarship award is a prestigious award for candidates whose academic record and leadership prospect places them at the peak of Clark’s applicant pool.

Eligible candidates will get full tuition, on-campus housing and board for all four years, irrespective of a family’s financial need.

  • Your eligibility for Merit Scholarships at Clark University is dependent on your academic accomplishment (those specified on your application for admission), not dependent on your family need.
  • However, foreign candidates who may qualify for scholarship awards are still required to display the ability to provide a significant percentage of the expense of their education.

How to Apply for Merit Scholarships at Clark University

When you submit your application for admission, you will be given consideration automatically for the Merit Scholarships at Clark University. If you are granted a merit scholarship, you will be informed when you get your admissions decision.

The Presidential Scholarship needs a separate application; however, the rest of the merit scholarship awards do not.

If you are interested in the Presidential Scholarship award, simply select that option when you complete the Common Application.

You will then get detailed information — with the topics of the two short essays — on how to apply for the award. The final closing date for submitting the essays is Feb. 1, for Early Action, Early Decision and Regular Decision applicants.

Candidates will be informed in March if they have been chosen for an interview.

The Admissions Committee selects finalists on the basis of the strength of their applications for admission and other conditions identified by the admissions committee. In 2020, the committee reviewed over 450 scholarship award applications from the U.S. and all over the world before inviting 15 finalists for interviews; of those 15, five were granted the scholarship award and became members of the incoming class. Usually, one or two foreign candidates receive the Presidential Scholarship each year.
